Managing Your Sickle Cell Disorder

Thalassaemia

Thalassaemia is a hereditary blood condition. In general this inherited blood condition presents itself as a carrier state (healthy) or disease state (disorder). The disorder is a form of anaemia that requires specialist care and management.

Who is at risk?

People who are of Asian, Mediterranean, Middle-Eastern and African origins are at 'risk' of Thalassaemia. Caucasian people are also affected, but this is less common
