Sickle Cell

Sickle cell is a hereditary blood condition. In general this inherited blood condition presents itself as a carrier state (healthy) or disease state (disorder). The disorder is a form of aneamia that requires specialist care and management.

Who is at risk?

People who are of African, Caribbean, Mediterranean, and Middle Eastern and Southeast Asian origins are most at 'risk' of sickle cell disorders. Caucasian people are also affected, but this is less common.
