Walsall Summer Art Workshop

Updated: Apr 26, 2023

On Tuesday 16th August 2022, we hosted an art workshop for the young people we support in Walsall with sickle cell and thalassaemia blood disorders.

In this workshop, Geetu, our art facilitator did an amazing job of showing our young people new art techniques and letting their creativity flourish.

The artwork they created included rainbow trees that represented hope and growth. We then discussed their goals for the future and how they can be achieved, and a few people went on to create more artwork around this.

The aim of this workshop was to encourage high aspirations and allow the young people to meet others who have faced similar experiences. It allowed them to make new friends and take part in activities they may not have had the opportunity or confidence to do otherwise.

All those who attended enjoyed the event and are keen to take part in more creativity workshops in the future.

Comments we received after the workshop:

"I have learnt lots of new techniques"

"Enjoyed playing with colours, messy play with hand print and writing my name"

"I enjoyed the opportunity to make new friends"

"I loved painting the rainbow tree"

"I liked the game that we played and also the painting and a place to relax"

Thank you to Geetu for facilitating the art workshop, the young people all loved working with you and were able to take away many new skills. We would also like to thank The Table Community Cafe in Walsall for letting us use your cafe to host our workshop. It was a lovely and welcoming venue. We look forward to working with you both again in the future!
