A group of Roald Dahl Nurses have collaborated with Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity and Focus Games Ltd to create a series of educational games to help children, families and peers, learn more about sickle cell disorder and how to manage it effectively.
They have developed a board game, online game and card game for children aged 6 to 9 years to learn more about sickle cell disorder, how medications work, and how to avoid known triggers for a sickle cell crisis.
The board game is intended for children to play in the hospital and is designed to be played with a nurse, playworker, and parent/guardian.
The card game can be played in a hospital, school or home.
The online game is free to play with a parent/guardian. Play the online game on Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity website.
They recommend that children playing the games are supported by an adult to help them understand the information presented in the games.
